This magnificent model was built by a very talented model engineer based in Lincolnshire. Unlike most kit-build models, the builder chose to scratch build this engine using a combination of his own castings, Greenly castings and drawings scaled up from Michael Breeze's 5 inch gauge drawings. The streamlined shape of the famous LNER A4 class has been perfectly replicated – even the crank driven smoke box door opens as per the original engines. The A4 class was famous for their high speed runs on the East Coast Mainline and the real 'Sir Nigel Gresley' locomotive is preserved by the SNG group. They operate it on the mainline across the U.K, along with visiting various heritage lines for special steam galas. Since its arrival at LMR, a new tender has been commission built by the professional model engineering firm Little Western. This additional water capacity, vacuum braking and unique feature will no doubt add to the presence of the model on the track.
